Seawalls
The most important improvement that can be made to a waterfront property is erosion and shoreline protection. In order to limit the
amount of upland erosion or to protect a property from storm events, a barrier between the land and the water is often created. This barrier
is known as a bulkhead or seawall. Atlantic Harbor Seawalls has the experience and knowledge to assist you with all phases of your
seawall project. Our turn-key approach will guide you through the site evaluation, structure design, materials evaluation, regulatory
permitting, and the subsequent seawall construction. The following sections detail our full scope of services for the seawall process.
Seawall Evaluation
Atlantic Harbor Seawalls provides a no charge/no obligation site evaluation for all waterfront property owners, associations, marinas, and
commercial facilities. This task is important to determine the best direction for your specific site. A seawall may be just one element of an
overall stabilization plan. Atlantic Harbor Seawalls takes a big picture approach to the protection of your shoreline by evaluating all forms
of stabilization. Our evaluation will determine the best stabilization solution and the most cost effective approach for your specific site.
Seawall Design
Seawalls must withstand some of the most brutal conditions of any structure built today—from heavy loads and extremely corrosive
saltwater, to attacks by marine borers. As a result, the seawall design is very important to the longevity of the structure and the protection of
your property. Our in-house seawall design team, along with our on-call Engineer with more than 30 years experience, will evaluate all of
the necessary criteria for your seawall design including the site topography, grading, soil properties, embedment stability, water table, wall
material properties, wave forces, toe scour, wave overtopping, and storm surge. The end result will be a seawall design that will provide the
best and most cost effective solution for your site. The seawall plans completed under this phase will be essential to the subsequent
permitting and construction phases.
Seawall Permits
Seawalls in Florida come under the jurisdiction of County environmental protection agencies, the State of Florida Department of
Environmental Protection, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Atlantic Harbor Seawalls has extensive experience with preparation of
seawall permits. We work in concert with the regulatory agencies to obtain permit approvals. Our years of consulting experience allows us
to not just fill out the forms, but speak the regulatory language, anticipate concerns, and provide the necessary application information
based upon our past successes. The end result is a solid regulatory relationship, a proven track record, and quicker permit approvals.
If you are wondering about the integrity of your seawall and would like to schedule a no obligation site evaluation, give us a call and we will
be glad to schedule a no obligation site evaluation.
There are four basic types of seawalls found in South Florida:
CONCRETE SEAWALLS
Our Concrete seawalls are used exclusively in saltwater applications grater than 6 feet above the mud line where deep water, high
exposure and hydrostatic conditions typically exist. While concrete seawalls are more costly than seawalls made from other materials,
they are also the most resilient and offer unmatched protection for waterfront properties.
ALUMINUM SEAWALLS
Our long-lasting aluminum seawalls are used in freshwater applications. Aluminum seawalls are less expensive than their more costly
concrete counterparts, yet protect your waterfront property against the elements.
VINYL SEAWALLS
Our vinyl seawalls are ideal in both fresh and saltwater applications. The vinyl seawalls will not corrode or rot and are impervious to marine
borers.
RIP RAP
Rip rap consists of boulders stacked up in front of your seawall to buffer it against the pounding effects of waves and changing tides.
